FASHION HACKS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Do you need help with how to put an outfit together? Want to learn how to simplify your fashion life? I have collected 27 fashion hacks from TikTok, fashion books, and personal experiences that will change your life – most likely ones you hadn’t come across before – let’s dive in!

1. LEARN HOW TO STYLE YOUR WARDROBE WITH PINTEREST.

Are You Finding It Difficult To Accessorize Your Closet With Style? Are You Facing An Overstuffed Closet But Cannot Seem to Find Something Wearable? Instead of going out and purchasing all new pieces, why not learn new ways of styling the ones you already own with Pinterest?

Take, for instance, if you own a white button-down that you love but are struggling to wear due to not knowing how. Jump online and search Pinterest using “white button-down outfits” or “style white button-down.” Pinterest will quickly provide hundreds of outfit ideas you can recreate using similar pieces in your closet and fashion hacks that might save the day!

2. ADD MORE BASICS TO YOUR CLOSET

Fashion influencers’ go-to advice is always to add more basics into your closet if they want you to stay trendy-free for longer and avoid spending money on trendy pieces that will go out of fashion quickly. Otherwise, your wardrobe will become full of clothing you won’t wear, and that waste will cost you much-needed money.

Focusing on investing in pieces you love that you know will always look good is more cost-effective and easier to style in different ways for fashion hacks with different outfits than buying multiple prints and colors or pieces with unique silhouettes. Simpler pieces may even work better as staples!

Apart from neutrals and timeless silhouettes, other go-to basics include layering a white collared shirt under a sweater for an academic vibe, wearing timeless black slip dresses, layering white mock turtlenecks underneath tees, dresses or overalls, or opting for mini skirts and stockings with either tees, sweaters or turtlenecks when in doubt – or try these 9 “basics” outfit ideas when you have nothing else!

3. TAILOR YOUR CLOTHING.

To look polished and put-together, clothing needs to fit well. That means purchasing high-quality pieces for fit and form instead of fast fashion with off-kilter seams or silhouettes or getting tailored pieces made according to individual measurements if necessary. Trust me; the extra costs upfront to invest in quality garments will make a lasting difference; beautiful pieces will help keep you looking your best for years and years!

4. USE YOUR NECK TO CHECK IF PANTS WILL FIT.

Are You Tired of Shopping for Pants? Finding your pants size across different brands can be frustratingly exhausting, with trying on shoes and trousers repeatedly before having them off again just minutes later to try another pair on. Rather than waste time trying on each pair, use this fashion hack instead: without even trying them on, you can find out if a pair will fit by just your neck – perfect if the dressing room drama gets overwhelming!

Hold both sides of the waist in either hand and wrap the waistband around your neck, wrapping your hands to touch at the back if they fit. Otherwise, they could either be too big (in which case they won’t) or not reach far enough in the back (whereby they wouldn’t). This technique helps narrow your search to try only potential candidates that work!

5. FIX LOOSE OR TIGHT JEANS WITH A HAIR ELASTIC

When your jeans are too tight, try attaching a hair elastic around the button. Thread it through the buttonhole, looping back around it again – this will close them together while giving more stretch for movement (this makes an excellent Thanksgiving outfit idea, too!). Hide the elastic with a belt or under your shirt – here’s an excellent step-by-step to show how.

For jeans that are too large, knot an elastic through one of the closest belt loops and attach it directly to your buttonhole. When buttoning them up as usual, just put your hair elastic through each belt loop now and button them up – or put the button through one and button directly from there before hiding with a shirt or belt.

6. USE A HAIR ELASTIC TO KEEP YOUR BELT FLAT.

Are your belt loops too loose and hanging over from time to time, leaving an awkward excess belt hanging? We have you covered with this fashion hack.

Get a hair tie that matches the color of your belt and pull it between your belt and pants so it is not visible behind both layers of the strap on top. Twist and wrap one end around the end of a loop to form another loop that keeps your belt flat to your pants.

7. ALTERNATE TIGHT AND BAGGY CLOTHES TO ADD DIMENSION.

To give your look dimension and movement, pair form-fitting pieces with loose or baggy ones – generally, an oversized knit sweater can look great when paired with skinny jeans or leggings), while tight tops work great paired with loose bottoms (such as a bodysuit and flared jeans)

That means you should only wear partially form-fitting outfits or layer baggy pieces together if that is what you prefer, though. If your clothing tends toward larger or oversized items, consider adding elements that define a defined shape more efficiently, such as belts or crossbodies to cinch your waist or tucking oversized T-shirts into bottoms to sharpen hips and narrow waistlines. Likewise, if your clothing tends towards tighter clothing options, add dimension by including some larger pieces such as long blazers or trench coats or large totes or blanket scarves into more closed clothing pieces – or add accessories such as large totes or blanket scarves!

8. DITCH THE CROP TOPS

Crop tops may look adorable and fashionable for fashion hacks, but they could make you appear shorter because they break up your natural body lines in the middle. To achieve an illusion of height without showing off too much midriff skin, consider switching up to bodysuits instead. These create a sleek silhouette while creating length.

9. STOP COMBINING LIGHT TOPS WITH DARK PANTS (OR VICE VERSA)

Like crop tops, wearing dark with light clothing will cut off your body and shorten you visually. Although pairing white tops with black pants can create an elegant style statement, pairing these could reduce height considerably – an issue for shorter women or those seeking to increase it further. To achieve the ideal long look.

Do not wear dark tops with light bottoms–or the reverse!–instead, try matching your top to the shade of the pants you are wearing. White tops go great with light-colored denim and a brown belt, for black pants try dark grey or black tops like Grey/black; brown pants can use beige/brown tops that match them similarly – creating an illusion of length while looking taller; this monochrome look won’t go out of fashion any time soon!

(To achieve the opposite result, do the exact opposite!) If you want to look shorter, work in the opposite direction!

10. USE CLOTHING SILHOUETTES TO LENGTHEN YOUR BODY

If your attire leaves you feeling “frumpy,” add lengthening elements into your look to create more of a lengthening effect and create an “L-shape”, as this will make you appear tall, strong, fierce, and confident.

So it is essential to pay attention to which outfits make you appear taller and which reduce your confidence. Pants that cover your shoes will give the illusion of longer legs than tapered bottoms do; high-waisted bottoms with vertical stripes or A-line silhouettes may also add height. And white shoes will make you appear taller than dark ones!

11. USE CLOTHE SILHOUETTES TO ACCENTUATE YOUR BODY

Fashionable clothing silhouettes can help accentuate any body type; what’s important is finding out which classes will complement and highlight the features unique to you. By researching body types, clothing items that accentuate these special features can become easier for you to choose.

Here are a few body types to help get you started with this fashion hack:

Pear shapes (or triangles) refer to women whose hips are wider than shoulders, and apple shapes (circles) are curvier with a less defined waist. Hornet bodies have balanced shoulders and hips and a more defined waist, while inverted triangles mean their shoulders are wider than their hips.

Rectangular bodies tend to have relatively uniform measurements with similar shoulders, bust, waist, and hip measurements. Small bodies (under 5’3″) tend to fit this description, while tall body types (over 5’11”) might fall under one of these five types instead.

Kibbe Body Typing is one of my favorites because it considers more in-depth and specific body types. Learn about all 13 Kibbe archetypes here.

12. LEARN THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS.

Here’s an easy, practical guide that’ll help if you are still determining what attire would fit into specific dress codes. When in doubt, turn to Pinterest for dress code outfit ideas too!

CASUAL

  • Dress comfortably when dressing casually.
  • A pair of your favorite jeans paired with a plain tee and some fun accessories is an effortless go-to outfit
  • Don’t overdress.
  • Avoid sweatpants and workout clothing (unless otherwise specified).

SMART CASUAL

  • Smart casual is detailing as dressing comfortably, but more put-together.
  • T-shirts and dark jeans may still be allowed.
  • Pair these items with quality jewelry and accessories to elevate their outfit and appeal.

BUSINESS CASUAL

  • Bright pants and unstructured blazers add sophistication to other casual pieces, making the ensemble work harder in terms of complexity.
  • Business Casual This category is similar to business formal, with each element becoming slightly more comfortable (such as an unstructured blazer instead of a tailored one).
  • No jeans or t-shirts; instead, wear only plain, high-quality t-shirts paired with a blazer and accessories for formal business meetings.
  • No open-toe shoes.
  • Keep jewelry minimal unless used as an intentional statement piece.

BUSINESS FORMAL

  • Dress pants or a pencil skirt paired with a matching blazer should be worn, with skirts no shorter than just below the knee and no less than 9″ from above the knee.
  • Heels, loafers, or designer flats should be favorites over casual clothing such as t-shirts, jeans, etc.
  • For formal events, wear dressy clothing like suit pants with a matching jacket or designer flats (heels not necessary), avoid casual pieces like T-shirts, jeans, etc., as these may cause offense to other guests at your event, and also avoid simple elements such as T-shirt, jeans, etc.

COCKTAIL

  • Wear appropriate party attire, including min/midi/bodycon dresses, along with dainty jewelry pieces and statement pieces that make an impactful statement!
  • For casual affairs, the dress code should also apply when attending; for cocktail events, dress up casually dressed according to expectations!
  • Marui For special events attire including mini/midi/bodycon dresses along with delicate jewelry or statement pieces in addition to statement pieces that stand out!  Dainty jewelry pieces make an impactful statement piece when attending.
  • Dainty jewelry or statement pieces will certainly stand out among their own for fashion hacks.

BLACK TIE

  • Bring out your best appropriate party attire, including mini/midi and bodycon dresses from previous parties you’ve worn on earlier occasions, such as these occasions are required (see the venue!). As usual, attire would suffice).
  • Attending such an event involves attire; we highly encourage its clothing (dainty jewelry pieces from past parties). These midi and bodycon dresses can even come allowing – either way- just as well as must-be present or statement pieces are sure to make you expect to do them.
  • For this party attire, from the best appropriate party wear, mid or bodycon dresses that feature Dainy jewelry.
  •  For any other options offered – when attending as you may need for the cocktail reception, these options for an event would wear your best party wear!….! for them the occasion to wear your best for fashion hacks.
  • Add sophistication with luxurious outerwear such as trench coats or shawls. A floor-length dress would make a striking first impression, while heels or quality flats will bring another dimension of refinement to any ensemble.
  • Jewelry should be delicate—reserve statement pieces for more neutral or subdued gowns.

13. STOP HANGING YOUR SWEATERS.

Instead, fold them! Gravity can cause your sweaters to stretch out over time or cause misshapen shoulders, so keep them folded neatly and stacked on one another to preserve the material and structure of each. Watch this video on how to fold a sweater!

14. HANG BUTTON-DOWNS WITH ONLY ONE BUTTON DONE.

Keep button-down collars looking their best by only buttoning the top button (at the collar). This keeps the collar firm and straight, helping prevent wrinkles or worn loose collars.

15. SIT DOWN WHEN TRYING ON NEW CLOTHES.

Did you know that dressing rooms include seats for more than just purse racks? They allow customers to try on clothes sitting down – as standing clothes look and feel different when worn while seated! Clothes also tend to fit differently when sitting; sometimes tightness becomes apparent more when sitting than standing; take the time before purchasing to sit to ensure they will be comfortable (comfortable items get worn more frequently; uncomfortable ones end up gathering dust in closets!) So take time before purchasing so they’ll stay hidden for years versus having taken!

16. USE ICE CUBES TO IRON CLOTHES.

Wrinkled clothing gives off an untidy appearance; get rid of those wrinkles for a more professional, put-together appearance by ironing away wrinkles, but ironing can be tedious. With Ice Cube Ironing, you don’t have to do that anymore – use one in an easy, non-heat setting instead!

Steaming or ironing will do an ideal job of de-wrinkling clothes, but if that isn’t available, don’t worry! Throw three to four ice cubes into your dryer along with any wrinkled garment and allow it to run for 10-15 minutes – when they melt, they create steam that helps de-wrinkle it further. Alternatively, throw in a wet hand towel for similar effects.

Is no dryer available? Hang the garment in your bathroom while taking a steamy shower – this won’t eliminate all wrinkles but may help loosen creases.

17. WASH SWEATERS AND PANTS INNER OUT.

Prevent your sweaters from pilling by washing them inside out with cold water and a low spin cycle before air drying them flat. Also, turn jeans, pants, or other garments featuring graphics or bold colors inside out to prevent color fading during washing.

18. DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER ON ATHLETIC CLOTHES.

Fabric softeners can be harmful to clothes due to their chemicals quickly wearing away fabric fibers. In particular, fabric softeners leave behind a film on synthetic fibers that trap sweat and bacteria, ultimately resulting in your athletic clothing smelling even dirtier after washing!

Current Boutique is to provide sustainable clothing and environmental responsibility. Find out why it is best to avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets.

19. ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET.

A disorganized or disorganized closet makes styling new outfits difficult. If fashion hacks are used for meditation or creative inspiration, having an organized system makes finding clothes faster, simpler, and more fun.

20. MATCH YOUR PURSE WITH BELT OR SHOES, NOT YOUR ENTIRE OUTFIT.

Avoid trying to match your purse to your entire ensemble, as that can become too confusing, often ending in mismatched looks. Instead, choose accessories that coordinate, such as a bag, belt, and shoes – such as a matching black belt with a black purse or brown loafers – for an effortless and sophisticated ensemble with much less work involved.

Combining two clothing elements – like two accessories – into one look is one of our go-to fashion formulas. Here are three fashion formulas to make getting dressed easy for trending fashion hacks.

21. ACCESORIZE, ACCESORIZE!

Accessorizing is a straightforward fashion hack to make an outfit stand out, yet it can make an enormous difference in its aesthetic appeal and overall appearance. Accessories make simple outfits look refined and put together; wearing the same white tee and jeans may look entirely different depending on what accessories we assemble.

Layered necklaces of various lengths and sizes can add depth to a plain shirt, and sunglasses add sophistication. Long earrings accentuate the jawline, while jangly bracelets add an element of fun. Also, remember rings–people look at each other’s hands often, so adding pop can add visual interest and make your appearance stand out!

Choose jewelry that brings joy and allows you to express yourself. Dainty pieces tend to be more accessible and timeless for fashion hacks when it comes to styling – however, don’t underestimate the impact of statement pieces!

22. SHOP FOR YOUR CLIMATE.

At some point or another, we all fall victim to this trap and romanticize different types of clothing for different climates. If it’s hot where you live, this might mean romanticizing knits and scarves, while those residing somewhere cold may long for sundresses instead.

Unfortunately, purchasing for these fantasies will only leave your closet full of items you never wear and waste money and space. Instead, focus on investing in basics tailored specifically to your climate so you have more wardrobe options at your fingertips. There are infinite ways to dress appropriately for weather-appropriate attire – experiment and find what works!

Have clothing that no longer suits your climate that you never wear? Consider giving it to Current Boutique as an easy fashion hack: they will provide you with money while helping reduce textile waste!

23. TUCK YOUR SHIRT INTO YOUR UNDERWEAR

When tucking in your shirt, keep it from bunching up or sliding out by folding it into your underwear to give a cleaner look that stays longer throughout the day and feels more comfortable. This step will create a smoother experience overall.

Tuck the ends of skinny-leg pants into socks before donning boots to ensure that they won’t bunch up or become uncomfortable for fashion hacks, and help to prevent your socks from sliding down. Doing this may also prevent slipperiness when walking over uneven terrain.

24. “HALF” TUCKING CLOTHING

Tucked-in shirts look better than untucked ones; for an alternative yet casual style, try only tucking one side or front of your shirt in. This creates an eye-catching high-low look while adding definition to your body with its shape-defining benefits while leaving some fabric out gives an intentionally messy and seductive sexiness.

25. USE A HAIR ELASTIC TO KEEP SLEEVES FOLDED

When folding long sleeves halfway up your arm, keep them folded with the help of a hair elastic. Just wrap the hair tie around your arm on the second-to-last fold, and they should stay up. Fold once over to hide the hair tie if needed, and you’re good to go!

26. PRIORITIZE QUALITY OVER QUNATITY.

Instead of buying clothes and throwing them out after just one season, focus on investing in quality rather than quantity and save both money and textile waste by doing so.

Instead of shopping for fast fashion hacks pieces that may only last one season, invest in high-quality investment pieces that you’ll be able to style again and again for seasons ahead. Quality pieces look and feel better than their fast fashion counterparts and will give your outfits a more put-together appearance – essential when it comes to looking chic.

27. BE SECURE IN YOUR SKIN.

Being confident makes all outfits better; radiant smiles, powerful walks, and acknowledging both internal and external beauty make for perfect fashion hacks accessories to any ensemble. Clothing impacts our psychology, so wear whatever makes you feel great – fashion’s greatest weapon against negativity lies within itself: reminding ourselves we are beautiful.
